MAJOR ASSIGNMENT

Welcome!

Welcome to my website!! This is a presentation for a Ryerson University course,"Program Evaluation". The instructor for this course is Francis Hare. My Hare is a wonderful teacher in the Child and Youth Care Program who has extensive experience in the field and a great sense of humour!! This assignment is a presentation of an evaluation on a service for children or youth. The three key elements of this assignment are
1) the service recipients are children or youth
2) the article is focused on a program for this client group, and
3) the article reports the results of evaluation research on the program.

Here it is...

The article I have chosen is, "Suicidal Ideation Among 8-Year-Olds Who Are Maltreated and At Risk: Findings From the LONGSCAN Studies". This article is about "suicidal ideation that was examined among 1,051 8-year-old children identified as maltreated or at risk for maltreatment"(Thompson et al., 2005). The author of this journal provides an evaluation for professionals who work with children and youth to inform them of what to look for and how to cope with suicidal clients. This article provides a service for children and youth as it gets them involved in prevention and awareness of suicide. The other service provided is the empowerment of children in taking action over their own mental health needs. There are many variables included in this study that play an important role. Children who have experienced abuse have suffered irreversible effects and this study gives health care professionals a valuable tool. This journal provides a critical service for all children and youth (especially 8-year-olds) because it raises awareness.
